Inspection Criteria

Most surgical instruments go through dozens of processes before they are considered completed. Broadly speaking there are three major inspection categories that are followed at different inspection points.screen-shot-2017-01-21-at-3-09-07-pm

  1. Technical Drawing: This document lists all the various dimensions of the instruments, its material specification, and also provides an actual (or scaled) drawing of the instrument. This drawing is used in various productions processes to ensure that the shape, angle, and dimensions of the instruments are as per the customer requirement.
  2. Functionality Testing: This ensures that an instruments performs the intended function. A scissors might be 100% as per dimensions of the technical drawing but might not cut at all. There are different ways to do functional testings for different instruments. Examples include cutting fabrics for scissors, and grasping threads for needle holders. This testing is also done on various stages of the production process.
  3. Aesthetics & Feel: This testing ensures that the instruments is beautiful to look at and comfortable to operate. Surface finishing tests (such as boil tests) and subjective visual and operative inspection are the basic criteria for this kind of inspection. The surface of the instrument should be free of rust, cracks, should not be sharp at edges, etc are some of the things that fall under this scrutiny.

These three broad categories can each be divided into many sub categories of inspection depending upon the product and production process. Quality inspection is a mixture of science and art and Dr. Frigz International is world renowned for producing best surgical instruments.
